1. Why did you select the inspiration pieces?
I selected the three pieces above because each piece showed me a different form of texture and form within the art. I wanted my self-portrait to be precise and realistic but the pieces helped me depict the details within my portrait as well.
2. Why did you select the media to create your self-portrait?
I selected pencil because it is easier to use and eraser when I make a mistake.
3. What challenges did you face in creating your self-portrait and how did you overcome them?
I had a difficult time portraying the structure of my face and the details. I maintained the challenge my focusing on just the portrait portion of the picture instead of the background.
4. How does this piece represent you?
This piece represents me because it shows the chapter in my life that I am closing, which is completing my undergrad. I instantly thought of this self-portrait because it is the most recent self-portrait I have and it represents the most important moment in my life at the time.
5. What elements and principles of art did you apply in this work?
I applied the elements and principle of line, form, shape, and contrast in this piece. The structure of my face and lines on certain parts of portrait like the graduation cap, gown, and my hair.
6. Did you enjoy working on this project?
I enjoyed working on this project because I have not created a self-portrait since 9th grade and it was something I enjoyed. It is challenging, but I believe it is something that you can build skill in as you practice more.
7. What do you think of your final artwork?
I thought this was an amazing idea for the final artwork because it was a closing piece that could have represented different things for people. For me personally, I enjoyed this assignment because it was a closing chapter for me that I was able to portray within the self-portrait.
